Threads of Humanity
My father once bequeth'd to me
A garment of unparall'd splendor.
Fabricated with dreams of evolution,
But guided by hands of anchored substratum.
And so, I wear a vibrant coat,
In varying shades, a blend of hues,
That touch the eyes and mind and heart,
Of everyone I pass by.
Reinforced twine, slender nylon,
Would break so long before,
My stiching's ever ravaged by
The winds of capricious Time.
Yet, years in mindless, fickle whims
May cause a portion to fall.
I'll discover color, unseen before,
To mend into it's home.
My changing coat I'll lend to others,
To warm them for awhile.
Then take it back and help them find
A blanket of their own.
All thanks to him who design'd this gift
And to he who once inspired.
The patriarch to bestow his son
A robe of endless understanding.
