Free To Be Me

I stand before you as who I am.
Not someone made by another man.
That is why I bow my head.
Giving respect to those now dead.
For they have fought and died for me to be free.
Allowing me to use my own two eyes to see.
I give praise to Diversity.
A word that allows me to be me.
I'm empowered in the knowledge that I'm not like you.
And the fact that you are different too.
I don't need to be a carbon-copy man.
I am proud to have two legs on which to stand.
No one feeds me the words I say.
I am stronger by doing things my way.
Tell me that there is a certain way to act because of color of skin.
I'll say you've sold your soul to an ideal that can not win.
I'll tell you loudly that I'm not buying it.
For I truly believe that I am a product of my environment.
If offered a penny for my thoughts, Or a million dollars to give me thoughts.
I'd take the penny and put it away.
For that penny allows me to think for myself another day.
The man or woman that takes the million dollars, has basically become a slave.
Being told what to think, say, and how to behave.
I may sell my car, my house, or any material things I have bought.
But I will NEVER, ever sell my freedom of thought.
For, if you can't think for yourself, then you aren't you.
You are based on what another makes you do.
It's the same as being a puppet on a string.
Cut it loose and let your freedom ring!
In the end there won't be a war of races.
For on both sides of the battle, there will be multi-colored faces.
You see, hatred can be learned by any color.
The other side of that coin is that we can also all learn to love one another.
So, as you can see, the war isn't going to be of a colorful fate.
It's actually going to be a war of love and hate.
The time will come when you must look in the mirror and decide.
Does your soul contain hatred strong, or love and pride?
Are you willing to die for those feelings you already know?
And will you die with the true feelings you want to show?
It's never too late for a change of heart.
With these words is where you can start.
Don't just read them as a passing phase.
Make sure with you, their meaning stays.
For words are nothing without the ideas behind their composition.
These words speak that it's time to have a hatred prohibition.
Of a unity of people, creating the ultimate worldwide team.
Bringing to reality, Martin Luther King's most memorable dream.
