Climbing The Mountain
Hand outstretched -- cradling for security.
Looking for the stability to help pull me up.
Every muscle in my body aches.
My mind urges me to push on.
Step by step is how I'm surviving.
discouraging thoughts try to make me quit.
Determination and pride keep me going.
Many say I can't.
I say I can!
I've come too far.
Still the distance is great.
Sweat drips down my aching body.
Stinging and blinding my weary eyes.
The salty taste seeps through my lips.
Still I press on --
Until I reach my goal!
I stand on top of the mountain.
I look down at the valley below.
The thoughts of the doubters cross my mind.
Why did I climb the mountain?
Why not just go around it?
Why?
I choose to face the obstacles that confront me,
Not avoid or run from them.
Do I stand defeated by these obstacles?
No --
I stand on top of the mountain!
